Lagos Commences Eight-Month Rehabilitation of Lekki-Ajah Road Corridor on Saturday

Lagos — The Lagos State Government is set to begin a major eight-month rehabilitation project on the highly critical Lekki-Ajahroad corridor this Saturday, November 15, 2025. The project, which targets the frequently congested stretch of the Eti-Osa/Lekki/Epe Expressway, is expected to conclude on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

The state government, through the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, has appealed for patience from residents and commuters, assuring that comprehensive traffic management plans are in place to minimize the inevitable disruption.

🛣️ Project Scope and Phases

The rehabilitation aims to improve the road quality, enhance safety, and ultimately ease the severe traffic flow along one of the state’s busiest economic arteries. The work will be executed in two major phases to manage traffic disruption:

Phase Section Covered | Traffic Strategy Phase 1 Lekki 1st Toll Gate to Lekki 2nd Toll Gate (7 Sections) | One lane will be closed for repairs at a time, while the other lane remains open for movement. Through-fare for Lekki/Ajah traffic will be maintained.  Phase 2 Lekki 2nd Toll Gate to Ajah Under-Bridge (4 Sections) | Traffic from Ajah inward Lekki will be diverted to one lane. Movement towards Ajah will remain open continuously.

🚦 Government Assures on Traffic Management Acknowledging the public's concern over the extended duration of the project, the Lagos State Government has affirmed that a robust strategy will be employed to keep traffic flowing: Phased Execution: Only specific, pre-determined sections will undergo repairs at any given time. Night Work Strategy: Major aspects of the construction will be carried out during the night shift to reduce congestion during peak commuting hours.  Alternative Routes:** The government is strengthening alternative routes, including the Coastal Road and adjoining service lanes, for easier diversion. LASTMA Deployment: Personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be heavily deployed along the entire stretch to manage movement, prevent gridlock, and respond swiftly to emergencies. Commissioner Osiyemi described the project as a critical part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's commitment to urban mobility and infrastructural renewal, stating that the long-term benefits would far outweigh the temporary inconvenience.
