Gun Accessory Company to Pay $1.75 Million in Settlement Over Racist Shooting

Gun accessory company tied to racist shooting that killed 10 at Buffalo supermarket to pay $1.75 millionIn a significant move towards accountability, a gun accessory company has agreed to pay $1.75 million to survivors and victims' families of the racist shooting that claimed 10 lives at a Buffalo supermarket in 2022.

Company Settles Lawsuit Over Gun Accessory
The agreement was reached between Georgia-based Mean Arms and New York State Attorney General Letitia James, who filed a lawsuit against the company. The lawsuit focused on an item that locks a magazine onto a rifle, which is supposed to prevent high-capacity magazines from being swapped in. However, according to James, the gunman easily removed the lock and added high-capacity magazines to his AR-15-style rifle.

Company Provided Instructions on Removing Lock
The company's product packaging included step-by-step instructions on how to remove the lock, which raised concerns about its effectiveness. James stated that by holding the manufacturer accountable and banning the device in New York state, they can offer some measure of comfort to the people of Buffalo.

Victims' Relatives Welcome Settlement
Some victims' relatives joined James at a news conference in Buffalo, where they expressed their gratitude for the settlement. They acknowledged that it is a step forward towards justice and accountability for those responsible for the tragedy.

The $1.75 million settlement marks a significant development in the pursuit of justice for the victims and their families. As the investigation continues, it remains to be seen what other measures will be taken to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
